Privacy Policy

1. Data We Collect

• Account information: username, email address (optional), password (securely hashed and never stored in plain text)
• Saved locations: addresses or coordinates you add for weather monitoring
• Notification preferences: your chosen alert channels and settings, including web-push subscription tokens if you enable browser notifications
• Family Safety data: group membership and "I'm OK" check-in timestamps, if you use family linking
• Feedback you submit: notes sent through the in-app Feedback form, stored with your username for follow-up
• Signup context: the optional "how did you find us" note from the signup form, and a one-way cryptographic hash of your signup IP address used solely to detect duplicate accounts (the IP address itself is not stored)
• Usage data: lightweight request counts for service monitoring (no behavioral tracking)

2. Data We Do Not Collect

• We do not use analytics cookies or tracking pixels
• We do not track browsing behavior
• We do not sell, share, or provide your data to third parties
• We do not serve advertisements

3. How We Use Your Data

• To deliver weather alerts and briefings to your configured notification channels
• To display weather conditions for your saved locations
• To maintain and improve the service

4. Cookies

We use a single functional session cookie required for authentication. No analytics, advertising, or third-party cookies are used.

5. Data Storage

Your data is stored on a secured server with restricted access. Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plain text. All connections use TLS encryption (HTTPS).

6. Account Security

Abuse, unauthorized access attempts, scraping, and misuse of the service are not tolerated and will result in immediate account suspension. We may log IP addresses temporarily for security and abuse prevention purposes.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time through the in-app Feedback form (linked in the footer of every dashboard page). Alert history is retained for service statistics but is not linked to individual users after account deletion.

8. Third-Party Services

Weather data is fetched from: NOAA/NWS (including MRMS, HRRR, GOES satellite, and National Hurricane Center feeds), Open-Meteo, OpenWeatherMap, Pirate Weather, the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, AirNow, EPA, and Google (geocoding and pollen). Your location coordinates are sent to the forecast services to retrieve local weather data; the NOAA feeds are public datasets that receive no personal data. These services have their own privacy policies.

Plain-English summaries and briefings are generated with Anthropic's Claude API, which receives weather data and your location's city name — never your account details.

Notification delivery uses: Pushover, Discord webhooks, Twilio (SMS), Resend (email), and your browser's push service (web push) as configured by you.

9. Changes

We may update this policy at any time. Material changes will be noted on the website.
